![]() CFCLA operates the largest independent lease fleet of locomotives in Australia, the fleet ranging from modern high horsepower mainline locomotives to smaller lightweight branch line and shunting units. This will be further complemented with the delivery of the first of 10 remanufactured EMD 3800hp units for (RL Class) mainline service in 2006. CFCLA placed a $30 million contract with United Goninan for the complete remanufacture and maintenance of a fleet of 12 former Freight Corp 442 class locomotives. Another contract, valued at $40 million, has been placed with Rail Technical Services for the complete remanufacture and maintenance of a fleet of 10 high speed, high horsepower RL Class locomotives. This additional motive power will provide additional flexibility to operators and potential operators wishing to expand into the increasingly competitive rail freight market. The first of the new Australian Horsepower GL class .Think Big. rolled off the production line in January 2003, are now available for lease along with the remaining 11 units. All are leased to the major operators and shippers. These GL units are dual-cab 3000hp units, equipped with GE 7FDL12 power plant and six GE752 traction motors. To improve performance and haulage capacity they are fitted with GE's state-of-the-art "Bright Star" microprocessor control system. With a tractive effort of 346kN at 18 km/h, based on 28% adhesion, they have a haulage capacity equal to Pacific National's 81 class, and Freight Australia's G class locomotives. The GL class locomotives are suitable to partner up with CFCLA's 13 EL class locomotives which have been re-geared for freight haulage. The testing of the new RL class is due to be carried out in 2005. These are to be single ended car-body locomotive with a slanted nose, similar in design to Pacific National's AN class locomotive, with a desktop control system. They will deliver 3800hp from the turbo charged EMD 16-645F3B power plant and six GE752 traction motors. The traction control system will be provided by QES-3. Complimenting the high horsepower locomotives, the older mainline locomotives are suited to metropolitan workings. Ranging from 1500hp to 2000hp, these locomotives provide daily reliability to customers. Branchline locomotives are becoming increasingly important and many railway lines serving rural facilities are being restricted by axle load weights. CFCLA's KL and T class locomotives are well suited to branchline workings with both locos having an axle load of 13.5t and 17.25t respectively. Both locomotives put out over 875 horsepower each. The 2 J Class locomotives are ideal for terminal shunting operations. CFCLA has purchased many 1000HP and 2000HP older locomotives in the market to supplement its requirement for port shuttles and track upgrade work. CFCLA's locomotive fleet is 65 units strong and will continue to grow through 2006/07 with a target of 100 locomotives in its fleet by 2010. |
